4678 sophia (sof-ee'-ah);

from 4680; wisdom (higher or lower, worldly or spiritual):

KJV-- wisdom.

4680 sophos (sof-os');

akin to saphes (clear); wise (in a most general application):

KJV-- wise.

In Greece at Paul's time there were 'sophists' who went around teaching

and propogating certain 'wisdom' (sophia) - they tended to be itinerant

speakers who would draw cult followings. Apollos may well have been

one before Aquila and Priscilla show him the error of his ways.
