Lesson Eight :
Helping One Another (CSG facilitator and leader’s copy)
WELCOME SECTION: Warmly welcome all the people and ask everyone to introduce
(20 mins) Themselves. Ask each person to say how they helped
someone this week or how they were helped by someone.
WORSHIP SECTION : The worship leader should select songs about the Lord’s help.
(30 Mins)
Suggested songs are: I Love You Lord You Are My Rock,
You are my strength when I am weak, I Want To Sing
Allow for the operation of the gifts (prophecy, new song etc.)
WORD SECTION : The facilitator should take the group through the attached
(60 mins) Lesson. Get different people to read through the sections
and any Bible Verses. Stop to discuss as prompted allowing
everyone to get involved (drawing in the quieter ones). If
the discussion is going off track bring it back to the main
topic. Be conscious of the time and pace yourself.
If there are any practical excercises take time to discuss the
Lessons learnt in conjuction with the lesson theme and don’t
allow too much wasted time.
When you’ve finished the lesson have a time of praying
For each other in areas they need help.
WORKS SECTION
: Pray outwards for unsaved friends , for your neighbourhoods
(10 mins) to have revival, for Singapore as a whole and even for our
missions work in China etc..and other pressing prayer needs.
Close with offering and benediction. Go and eat…..

Ask
one person to read Titus 3:5. What can good works NOT do ? Discuss.
Read
Titus 3:8. How does Paul describe good
works, once we have been saved by faith ?
Read
Ephesians 2:8-10. What two things does Paul say about good works ?
Who
does Paul say should have priority in our good deeds ? (See Galatians 6:9-10)
What
specific examples of good deeds are mentioned in the following verses ?
James
1:27; 1 Timothy 6:17-19 and Romans 12:13 – ask different people to read and answer.
Dscuss:
How relevant are these things in our own fellowship ?
What
else are we told about hospitality in Hebrews 13:2 and 1 Peter 4:9 ? Discuss.
Discuss:
In a fellowship our size how can we ensure no one is ‘left-out’ or ‘feels
lonely’ ?
What
two things are we commanded to do in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ?
Read
out: “There are different ways that we can minister to one another and help
each other. But surely the most effective way to minister is to understand where each person is at and
to reach them at the point of their need. “
Read
1 Thessalonians 5:14 – on a big sheet of paper list out the four different
categories mentioned under
The
heading ‘Type of person’. Also add the
columns headed ‘Form of help’ and ‘Result’ and add in how to help each type of
person and the consequences of this.
Read
1 Peter 4:10. How does God equip us to help others ? Discuss.
Read
1 Corinthains 10:23-24. What attitude is essential to help others ?
Read
1 Corinthians 13:1-3. What are the results of trying to help others if we don’t
really love them ?
Give
different people the following verses to read and say what examples of helping
others are given in them - Galatians
6:1; Galatians 6:2; Colossians 1:9; Hebrews 10:24-25 and 2 Timothy 4:2.
In
what other ways can we help one another ? Ask each person to give one
different way of helping.
Discuss
what are the most prominent areas people need help in within this fellowship.
In
conclusion, list at least one person you know who would really be helped by
each of the following good deeds…
Which
of the above do you feel God would ask you to do before the end of this week ?
Pray over this.
