7.45pm-9.30pm
WELCOME (15mins): Warmly
welcome everyone, introducing newcomers.
ICEBREAKER: Write as many phobias as you can think of on
cards and
Let
each person choose one. They then have to act out
that
fear without saying any word that would give it away.
The
rest have to guess what the phobia is (eg. Fear of heights,
Dogs, spiders, flying, lifts etc..)
WORSHIP (30 mins): Ask
the worship leader to choose songs on set free from fear.
(eg.
Fear Not! Jesus We Celebrate Your Victory )
WORD (45 mins) :
Read through the material (OP6)
together - the facilitator should
ask
different individuals to read different sections and
relevant
verses.
After
each point allow a discussion time asking individuals
to share their own experiences.
End the
time by asking each person if they fear of anything.
Answer to
fill in gap: Fear channeled in the
right direction turns to
FAITH.
Pray for
each other in the light of the above.
WORKS (15mins): The last 15 mins are the most importance ones! Take time
praying
for non-believers and people with problems. Pray for
your
area and for Singapore and surrounding nations.

OVERCOMERS –PART Ten
Member’s
Sheet
Read
together: “Fear is a basic emotion, a
God-given instinct which serves as an alarm system on the positive side. It is
a valuable servant but a terrible master! Fear is a powerful creative force on
which much money is spent – eg. Medical research because of fear of sickness
On a personal
level fear has physical consequences. This is called psychosomatic illness –
people who are afraid to face up to life become sick as a result.”
What
are some sicknesses that can result from fear ? Discuss.
Read
Psalm 34:4 – Davis said “I sought the Lord and He answered me and delivered me
from all my fears”. What are some of the fears God wants to deliver you from as
found in the following verses (give one verse to each person to answer)…
(i)
Psalm 118:66; Proverbs 29:25; Hebrews 13:6
(ii)
Matthew 25:25
(iii)
Job 3:25; Psalm 23:4; Proverbs 1:33
(iv)
Hebrews 2:15
(v)
2 Timothy 1:7
(vi)
Psalm 53:5
Name
some other fears common to man (one each)…
Jesus
knew all about our fears and foresaw the problems of a fearful world. Read Luke
21:26-34 and Matthew 6:25, 34 and comment on what Jesus says concerning our
fears….
Read
Psalm 34:7, 9, 11 – Fear channeled in the right direction turns to ________________ (fill in the blank). When
we worry we don’t trust, when we trust we don’t worry.
Read
Isaiah 26:3-4 and Job 3:25 and comment on what they say about fear….
Read
together: “Fear concentrates on the problems, faith concentrates on the
promises.
Fear looks at the circumstances,
faith looks at the Word of God.”
Why
did the Childen of Israel fail to enter the promised land ?
Why
did Joshua and Caleb go in ?
What
is the difference between faith and presumption ? Discuss.
Give
each person one of the following verses about faith and ask them to comment on it:
Romans 4:17; Hebrews 11:1, 3, 6, 27 and 2 Corinthians 4:18.
Read
Psalm 34 together. How many references are there to looking to God and trusting
in Him ?
Think
again about some of the fears we have mentioned. How can we be set free from
these ? Discuss specific cases.
End
the time by praying for each other, especially those with identified fears.
