When they are rejected (eg. Hurt, isolated) and an image

That goes along with it – (eg. Isolated may cause the image

Of a person alone on a desert island). Ask each one to share.

WORSHIP (30 mins): Ask the worship leader to choose songs on being accepted by

The Lord. (eg. I’m Accepted, I’m Forgive, I believe in Jesus)

OVERCOMERS –PART Nine

Overcoming Rejection

Member’s Sheet

Read the following: “The breakdown of the human family today has caused rejection to be a major problem. God designed that we should have love, protection and care in the family. As a child is born into a home he is weak and defenseless. He depends upon his family to surround and defend him. When there is a breakdown in the human family, there are profound emotional and personality effects in the lives of the children involved. It is a fact that a child that has been brought up in a loving atmosphere and home faces all consequent relationships with confidence and security. But one who has felt rejection at childhood will grow up being defensive , fearful and suspicious about all other relationships. Rejection can come to us in a number of different ways , both in childhood and adulthood.”

Discuss some of the ways rejection can come to us ….

Read Proverbs 18:8 – What kind of rejection is mentioned here ? What are the results ? Discuss.

Pschology tells us that there are three parental attitudes which are necessary for a secure and wholesome personality – acceptance, affection and approval. Any lack of these will be interpreted as rejection. This rejection can result indifferent consequences – discuss these consequences under the following three headings….

(1)     Spiritually

(2)     Physically

(3)     Emotionally

If you have been rejected God knows all about it. He knows how you feel deep down inside. He understands the wounds and the hurts and he wants to minister to these – Read Isaiah 53:3-4 and comment…

Read the following verses and discuss what they say about our rejection. What do they have in common ? – 1 Peter 2:7; John 1:11; Mark 8:31; Matthew 26:56 and Matthew 27:46

Jesus was constantly rejected – the greatest rejection He suffered was when He was abandoned by His Father for three dark hours upon the Cross. The Bible says that He was made perfect through sufferings – He qualified as a Saviour and a sympathetic Mediator because He suffered those things which we feel so strongly, and can minister to us today.

Read Psalm 69:20 about how Jesus died … water and blood flowing out together tells us He died of what ?

What words did Jesus say at the commecement of His ministry (read Luke 4:18) ?  Who does Jesus want to heal ?

Read Matthew 20:29-34 – why did Jesus ask the question in verse 32 and how does it relate to the problem of rejection ? Discuss.

What vital key to inner healing is contained in the parable in Matthew 18:21-35 ?

In what ways can inner healing be ministered to us ?

Why is it important to ask God for a spirit of meekness after we have been released from rejection ? Discuss and then pray for each other to be delivered from rejection.
