Armored Truck Accident

Oakland, Calif. (AP) - People jumped out of cars in rush hour traffic, grabbing bags of money that fell out of a Brink’s armored truck, and apparently got away with it.

“I saw one guy strike an old lady who was reaching for one bag,” said Willie Greenwood, who was behind the truck in his car when the Brink’s back door popped open and out plopped the bags.

“Another guy jumped onto my bumper and leaped into the crowd,” said Greenwood. “It went on for three or four minutes. I couldn’t move my car because there were so many people in the street.”

Brinks’ representatives wouldn’t say how much money was lost in the Wednesday morning rush hour scramble at the intersection of 14th and Harrison streets.

But bags of coins hit the pavement, scattering and rolling every which way and sacks of bills fell out too, according to Greenwood, 28, a stock clerk for American President Lines.

“It was crazy,” he said. “All the traffic stopped. People were coming from every direction. They were grabbing money and putting it in their pockets. Old people, young people and guys in business suits.”

Greenwood grabbed a plastic bag of coins wedged beneath the front tire of his car. Then he telephoned the police.

“I tried to tell them what had happened, but they kept me on hold for so long I finally hung up,” Greenwood said.

It Didn’t Rain Because of the Nude Farm

In South Africa, naturist club owner Beau Brummell was irked by accusations from morals watchdogs that a shriveling Transvaal drought was brought on the “sin” of nude togetherness at his 1000-acre farm. So he asked his 370 visitors to get dressed. And, for the first time in two months, it poured rain. “It’s enough to make me become a monk!” Brummell said.

Golf Addict was Punished

Once there was a man who was such a golf addict that he was neglecting his job. Frequently he would call in sick as an excuse to play.

One morning, after making his usual call to the office, an angel up above spotted him on the way to the golf course and decided to teach him a lesson. “If you play golf today, you will be punished,” the angel whispered in his ear.

Thinking it was only his conscience, which he had successfully whipped in the past, the fellow just smiled. “No,” he said, “I’ve been doing this for years. No one will ever know. I won’t be punished.”

The angel said no more and the fellow stepped up to the first tee where he promptly whacked the ball 300 yards straight down the middle of the fairway. Since he had never driven the ball more than 200 yards, he couldn’t believe it. Yet, there it was.

And his luck continued. Long drives on every hole, perfect putting. By the ninth hole he was six under par and was playing near-perfect golf. The fellow was walking on air.

He wound up with an amazing 61, about 30 strokes under his usual game. Wait until he got back to the office and told them about this! But, suddenly, his face fell. He couldn’t tell them. He could never tell anyone. The angel smiled.
