GAIUS

[GAY US]-- a common Roman name shared by several men in the New Testament:

1. A native of Macedonia and a companion of the apostle Paul .

2. A man of Derbe who accompanied Paul as far as Asia . He may be the same person as Gaius No. 3.

3. A Corinthian who was baptized under Paul's ministry <1 Cor. 1:14>.

4. The person to whom John addressed his third letter. John commended him for his generosity and faithful service <3 John 1,5>. He may be the same person as Gaius No. 3.
