Lesson One: The Need For One Another (CSG member’s copy)
Read together…
“There
are certain aspects of our growth in the Lord that cannot take place apart from regular fellowship.
God sets up the privilege of daily, face-to-face encounters with other
believers as our means from growing together. The idea of local churches did not
originate with us, but with God. They demonstrate that we are not only joined
to God but also to one another. We must grow together in love through actual
contact.”
Read
Psalm 92:13-15 and discuss what the keys to flourishing and fruitbearing are.
Just
as plants cannot grow without nourishment from the soil, energy from the sun,
and water from the atmosphere so we cannot meet our requirements for spiritual
growth alone. We must be planted in fellowship or our spiritual roots will
wither.
What
two responsibilities do we find in Hebrews 10:25 ?
What
will result from these things ? (Heb 10:24)
Read
Acts 2:42-47 and ask different members to name one different thing that characterized the early New
Testament fellowship.
What
are the things that workmost against your having fellowship with each other in
this group ? Discuss (eg.
Circumstances, other priorities, rear of rejection, incompatablility etc)
What
are some of the ways that you can develop relationships with other Christians
in your fellowship ? Discuss.
What
benefits do we receive when we relate to other Christians in a meaningful way,
according to Ephesians 2:21-22; Ephesians 3:17-18; Ephesians 4:14-16 and 1
Corinthians 12:12-18 ? Ask different members to read each passage of Scripture
and answer.
Exercise:
Write
the following five things on different cards and place them, as a group, in order
of their importance to having good
fellowship (top being the most importance, bottom being the least):
Agreeing
in docrine – Receiving and giving correction – Having genuine concern for one
another – Making sacrifices for each other – Doing things together – Praying
for each other.
It
requires a discipline of unselfish love to really build others up. We cannot
build others up if we are only interested in fulfilling our own ego-trips. We
need to find significance in being a contributing member of something bigger, and more important than ourselves –
the Body of Christ. The Scriptures speak of what helps and what hinders others.
The word ‘edify’ means ‘to build’.
Read
Romans 15:1-2 – What key helps us to build others ?
Rewrite
Romans 14:19 as a group in the form ‘As a Cell Group we will…..’
Read
1 Corinthians 14:26 – what positive thing can we share that will help to build
others ?
End
the time by praying for each other in the light of the above.
