Lesson Two: Learning To Honour One Another (CSG member’s copy)

In Psalms 8:4-5 we read that when God created man He “Crowned him with glory and honour” –  what particular honour did  God give to human beings  ?  Discuss.

According to 1 Peter 2:17a whom should we honour ?

Ask different members to read out one of the following verses and say  what things lead to honour according to that verse – Proverbs 15:33;  20:3; 21;21 and 22:4.

Read John 4:44 – what is Jesus REALLY saying here – discuss.

Give each person the following passages and ask them to say  (1) Who is to be honoured and (2) How we are to honour them.

Person One   : 1 Peter 2:17b and Matthew 22:17-21, 1 Timothy 2:1-3

Person Two  : 1 Timothy 6:1-2

Person Three: 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 and Hebrews 13:7 & 17

Person Four : Exodus 20:12 and Ephesians 6:1

Person Five  : 1 Peter 3:7

Person Six    : Titus 2:4-5

Person Seven: Romans 12:10

If there’s less than seven in the group some can take more, if there are more designate others to answer how they might be honoured.

Read Philippians 2:1-16.

Ask different people to  answer the following questions and then discuss as a group…

What is Paul’s desire for  these Christians ? (verse 2)

In verse three what things are mentioned that work against this ?

What things are mentioned that will help this desire (in verses 3 and 4) ?

Restate the example Paul used in verses 5-11 in your own words.

According to verse 14, what two things produce dishonour amongst God’s people ?

If we eliminate these things what will be the result according to verses 15 and 16 ?

How can this group cultivate the opposite of these two things ? Discuss and then pray for each other.
