Lesson Six:
Submitting To Others (CSG facilitator and leader’s copy)
WELCOME SECTION: Warmly welcome all the people and ask everyone to introduce
(20 mins) Themselves. Use the word SUBMISSION to make as many
other different words (three or more letters) as possible. You
can split the CSG into groups or do it as individuals. Give 5
minutes to do this in. The winner is the one with the most
real words. Give them a small gift.
WORSHIP SECTION : The worship leader should select songs about submission….
(30 Mins)
Suggested songs are: I Will Come and Bow Down, Jesus
Shall Take the Highest Honour, To Him who sits on the
Throne.
Allow for the operation of the gifts (prophecy, new song etc.)
WORD SECTION : The facilitator should take the group through the attached
(60 mins) Lesson. Get different people to read through the sections
and any Bible Verses. Stop to discuss as prompted allowing
everyone to get involved (drawing in the quieter ones). If
the discussion is going off track bring it back to the main
topic. Be conscious of the time and pace yourself.
If there are any practical excercises take time to discuss the
Lessons learnt in conjuction with the lesson theme and don’t
allow too much wasted time.
When you’ve finished the lesson have a time of praying
For the proper levels of authority in your group, church and
The families represented .
WORKS SECTION
: Pray outwards for unsaved friends , for your neighbourhoods
(10 mins) to have revival, for Singapore as a whole and even for our
missions work in China etc..and other pressing prayer needs.
Close with offering and benediction. Go and eat…..

Lesson Six : Submitting To Others (CSG member’s copy)
The
leader reads…”One of the characteristics of God’s Kingdom and rulership
is order. Wherever God reigns
there is peace and Divine order. One of the characteristics of Satan’s Kingdom
is confusion. When people violate the pattern set down in Scripture for law and
order, then rebellion and anarchy are the consequences. God reigns in the earth
through delegated powers.”
Read
together Romans 13:1.
(i)
What
authorities was Paul referring to here ?
(ii)
What
were they like ?
(iii)
Where
did their authority come from ?
(iv)
What
is our duty towards them ?
What
did Jesus say about authorities in John 19:10-11 ? Discuss.
What
do we learn from Psalm 75:6-7 ?
What
was the key to the centurion’s authority in Luke 7:8 ?
One
person read: “The authority of a Captain passes down through the ranks, and
all the commanding officers and those carrying out the Captain’s commands
possess his authority. They have authority because they have received authority
by placing themselves under authority. Submission is the key to authority. Only
as we submit ourselves to the authority of Christ, in it’s delegated form, can
we take authority over the world, flesh and the devil and also prove ourselves
worthy of responsibility within the Body of Christ.”
We
have looked before are the various delegated authorities. Do you remember what
they are ? Pass out the following
verses for different people to read and state the delegated authorities we are
to submit to….
Romans
13:1; Colossians 3:18, 20 and 22; Hebrews 13:17.
What
is the difference between honouring and submitting ? Discuss.
When
should you not obey an authority ? (See Acts 5:17-19 and discuss)
DISCUSS
THE NATURE OF THIS EXCEPTION IN SOME OF THE PREVIOUS CASES (eg. Civil authorities,
parents etc..)
From
the following verses list out as many characteristics of Biblical submission as
possible – Ephesians 6:5-6; Titus 2:9; 3:1-2.
What
example of submission is given in Luke 2:48-51 ? Discuss.
What
did Jesus do when He found the cup of submission bitter to drink ? (see Matthew
26:39) Discuss.
If
authority comes from submission to those who are place over us, what happens
when we deliberately refuse to submit to our ‘coverings’ ? Discuss.
What
did Paul mean in 1 Corinthians 11:10 ? Discuss.
What
does Paul say about submission in Ephesians 5:21 ? Put it in your own words.
Give
some illustrations of mutual submission.
What
benefits result from submission to one another ? Discuss.
Pray
for each other in the light of the above.
