Lesson 7: The Priesthood of all Believers – Part Six

Leader’s Copy

7.45pm-9.30pm

WELCOME (15mins): Warmly welcome everyone, introducing newcomers.

Icebreaker: Ask each person for a different area of life we

are to reign in as Christians – each one must be different.

WORSHIP (30 mins): Ask the worship leader to choose songs about the Kingship

                                    Of Jesus.

E.g. You are crowned, Majesty, Jesus We Enthrone You, Reign

                                          In me.

WORD      (45 mins) : Read through the material together - the facilitator can ask

different individuals to read different sections and relevant

                                    verses. Follow any given instructions.

After each point allow a discussion time asking individuals

to share their own experiences, problems etc. The fill in the

gap answers are shown in bold below….

When asked ‘Who is our main enemy?’ the answer is OURSELF. You can read the following to clarify this…..”Our enemies, therefore, are not someone else. The trouble comes from within us. We can sit in a beautiful cathedral, listen to divine music, and gaze at the stained glass windows, but still have uncleanness in our minds. Where does the uncleanness come from? It is in us. And so what language does Paul use? "Put to death." You see, we are very nice about these things. Most people just commit sin, letting it have free course. Then they are filled with guilt, of course.”

Answers to fill in the blanks….In 2 Samuel 11 we read that although it was springtime, King David did not go to war. But he was defeated. Where? In his own BEDROOM. Who was the enemy? His own LUST.

This time should lead to a time of praying for individuals as the L

                                    Lord leads.

WORKS     (15mins): The last 15 mins are the most importance ones! Take time

Praying for non-believers and people with problems. Pray for any

Church events that are forthcoming (evangelistic or otherwise).

Lesson 7: The Priesthood of All Believers – Part Six

Member’s Copy.

________________________________________________________________

Read 1 Peter 2:9-10

Not only are we a chosen race but Peter says we are also a royal priesthood. We will now look at how we are to be KINGS and how we must function in that role.

Through Adam Death Reigned

Read Romans 5:17a  - Through Adam’s sin all humanity came under the reign of an awful king – what is that king’s name? Discuss what this means.

Reigning in Life

Read Romans 5:17b. When we trust in Jesus Christ and believe in him in this world who will reign then?

What happens to the previous awful king (read 1 Corinthians 15:54-57)?  Discuss.

Kings Must Reign

We have been taken out of the realm of death and have been placed in the realm called life, where we are to reign as kings every day of our lives. Our guilt is gone, our sin is dealt with, and death is totally done away with.

Read Romans 6:11-13 – As Christians can the previous awful king still reign? How?

How can we practically rule and reign in life then? Discuss.

Kings Must Judge

Read1 Corinthians 6:1-3 - Why do we need to judge and what kind of judgment are we to give? How can we do this? Discuss.

Kings Wage Battles

Read 2 Samuel 11:1 - This is also true of us. The moment we receive Jesus Christ as Lord, it is springtime for us. We have been made kings and we now have new responsibilities: 1) to reign in life, 2) to judge situations with divine wisdom, and 3) to wage battles.

Who Are Our Enemies?

Our first enemy is not the Devil or his demons! Read Romans 8:13 and Colossians 3:5. Who is our main enemy? In what way?

What are we to do to that enemy? How?

We Must Deal with Sin

Read Matthew 5:29-30 – What does it not mean ? What does it mean? Discuss.

In 2 Samuel 11 we read that although it was springtime, King David did not go to war. But he was defeated. Where? In his own __________. Who was the enemy? His own ______. He didn’t deal with the sin and he had to live with the consequences.

The truth is, our spring has come. We have been liberated from darkness and slavery to sin - Victory Is Assured. Read Revelation 12:11 2 and Corinthians 2:14 and comment.

Practical Application – end by asking each person to consider the following. Pray for each other.

*How is your health? Are you ruling it? Are you exercising your kingly government in the area of eating, eating for the glory of God? Do you need to lose weight, or gain weight?

*How is your financial life? Are you acting as a king? If you in debt, drowning in red ink, then you must acknowledge, "O God, I have not reigned. I did not rule. I did not judge correctly, and I have committed horrible sins by dragging myself and my family into debt." God wants us to be kings in financial matters.

*What about the rule in your home? Is there disorder? Are your children responding to God? Does anyone respond to you? You are kings, representing Jesus Christ. Are you ruling for him at home?

*What about your witness in the world? Do you fear men, or do you open your mouth about Jesus Christ?
