Deborah and Barak's Battle |
After Ehud, the second
major judge, died, the people of Israel fell into wickedness once again. As a punishment
for their disobedience, the Lord gave the Israelites over to Jabin, a Canaanite king who
reigned in Hazor, nine miles north of the Sea of Galilee. King Jabin oppressed the
Israelites for twenty years.
King Jabins army, under the command of Sisera, was stationed at
Harosheth-hagoyim, a fertile, agricultural region in the Jezreel Valley near the strategic
passage through the Carmel mountain range at Taanach. There were only three passageways
through the Carmel mountain range from the Coastal Plain to the Jezreel Valley: at
Jokneam, at Megiddo and at Taanach. Thus, military control of these three passageways was
of strategic importance.

Jesus' Baptism and Temptation |
John the Baptist began his
ministry in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar (Luke 3:1-2), which would
place it about A.D. 26-28. Jesus' baptism, therefore, took place during this same time
frame, probably in the summer of A.D. 27.
Jesus was "about thirty years of age" at this time (Luke 3:23).
